The Queens Blvd - Eighth Ave subway train first began from Roosevelt Ave to Queens Plaza when the Queens Blvd line opened 8/19/1933. Houston street opened to Second Ave 1/1/1936 and the line was completed to Jay street 7/1/1933. The went to Church Ave replacing the in that area 4/9/1936, extended to Union Turnpike on 12/31/1936, and all the way to 169th street on 4/24/1937. Once the Sixth Ave subway was built, the went to Second Ave or Hudson terminal (WTC) 12/15/1940. On that day, the stopped going to Church Ave and was replaced by today's train.

On 12/10/1950, the was extended to 179th street. On 4/29/1956, it extended to Euclid Ave and the remaining parts of the Fulton street el from Grant Ave to Lefferts Blvd until 1969. On 1/27/1957, the was extended to Far Rockaway until 1/2/1973 and Rockaway Park until 1976. From 1976 up until today, the train moved out of Brooklyn and Rockaways and now terminates at (WTC). Finally, on 12/11/1988, the moved away from the 179th street stop and was assigned to the new Archer Ave subway to Jamaica Center. The is considered one of the fastest express lines in the entire subway system.

The movie "Ghost" was filmed in an abandoned lower level of the 42nd street station under the Port Authority bus terminal. This was the scene where Patrick Swayzie was first learning how to fling soda caps and realizing his spiritual powers.
