The train was created to be the skip stop service with the along the Broadway / Jamaica el on 12/12/1988. It goes from Broad street to Jamaica Center. Originally, the train was the local service along the Jamaica el on 11/27/1967. It preceded the BMT #14 which was phased out that same day. The went from Canal to 168th street, Jamaica. It was short-lived and lasted only until 6/30/1968. There was also a service from 57st / Sixth Ave to 168 st, Jamaica. On 1/2/1973, the was renamed and went from 57st / Sixth to Eastern Parkway. The discontinued service on 8/27/1976.

The OLDEST sixteen stations still in operation on the Broadway el, (today's , and ) are Marcey Ave, Hewes st, Lorimer st, Flushing Ave, Myrtle Ave, Kosciusko street, Gates Ave, Halsey street, Chauncey street, Broadway Junction, Alabama Ave, Van Sicklen Ave, Cleveland Ave, Norwood Ave, Crescent street, and Cypress Hills. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THESE ARE THE OLDEST SURVIVING STATIONS SINCE THE DAYS OF STEAM; 119 TO 127 YEARS OLD! (as of 2012)

The letter was supposed to have been used again for the Jamaica el but it was already taken by the Eighth Ave subway in 1988. So the letter was used instead and is how it stayed ever since. On 9/11/2001, the was suspended from service but resumed 10/29/2001 to the present. The was ALMOST discontinued in 2009 because of MTA service cuts. For the first time in 21 years, there wouldn't have been any skip stop services which would've meant a very long local ride along the ! The Jamaica el was used for the movie "Ghost" near Myrtle Ave where Willie Lopez was hit by a car and taken away by the bad spirits.
